According to the World Health Organization, handwashing with soap and water can prevent 1 in 3 diarrheal illnesses and 1 in 5 respiratory infections. Handwashing can also help prevent the spread of other diseases, such as influenza, measles, and pneumonia.
World Hand Hygiene Day is a time to remind people to wash their hands often, especially before eating, after using the bathroom, and after blowing their nose or coughing. It is also a time to encourage healthcare workers to practice good hand hygiene.
Today is Global Handwashing Day. Organised by the Global Handwashing Partnership, its purpose is to raise awareness of the importance of hand hygiene to help prevent the spread of diseases around the world. Let’s Unite for Universal Handwashing.
