Save Lives, Clean your Hands – World Hand Hygiene Day – 5th May
Back in 2009, the World Health Organization (WHO) launched its annual hand hygiene campaign[1] as part of its effort to promote hand hygiene around the world, and support its global health and hygiene objectives. And over the past couple of years, the importance of good hand hygiene has been further highlighted, with hand washing and sanitisation a key measure to help curb the spread of the Covid-19 virus. Handwashing is proven to help prevent the spread of both respiratory illness and diarrhoeal diseases, and so important has proper hand washing become over the course of the pandemic, that the WHO has even updated its guidance in the context of Covid-19.
World Hand Hygiene Day 5th May 2022
World Hand Hygiene Day is held on 5th May every year. The campaign encourages healthcare workers all around the world to increase adherence to hand hygiene, to prevent infection and in turn protect both frontline health workers and vulnerable people.
