  • Why Reinvesting in Your Business Is One of the Smartest Moves You Can Make.

In the fast-paced world of business, growth doesn’t happen by accident - it’s a result of consistent effort, smart decisions, and, most importantly, strategic investment. Whether you're a start-up or an established manufacturer, reinvesting in your company is key to long-term success. At Cleenol, we’re proud to reinvest in all areas of our business including our latest investment in two brand-new 10,000-litre blending tanks to enhance our production capabilities. Reinvestment: A growth mindset in action. Let’s face it, investments often come with a hefty price tag, careful planning, and significant time commitments. It’s easy to view them as burdens or necessary evils. But in reality, smart investments are growth enablers.. In fact, how and when a business invests in itself speaks volumes. According to Accounting Insights , “Underinvestment weakens a company’s financial health by increasing costs, reducing profitability, and limiting access to capital.” Businesses that continually reinvest are seen as forward-thinking, resilient, and capable of adapting, which are all critical traits in today’s competitive landscape. Why we’ve chosen to reinvest and what that means for you. At Cleenol, we believe that if you invest in your company, it will invest back in you through increased efficiency, improved customer experience, and long-term growth. That’s why we’ve recently reinvested in our production facility with two 10,000-litre blending tanks. This investment isn’t just about upgrading our equipment. It’s about delivering better value to you, our customers: Increased capacity  means we can meet larger orders and reduce lead times. • 99.9% vs 99.99% - understanding what Log Kill means.

We've all come across a product that claims to kill 99.9% vs 99.99% of bacteria and thought to ourselves what is the real difference ? Both sound highly effective, however there's a significant gap between the two. This is where Log Kill comes in to play. What is Log Kill? When disinfecting or sanitising a facility, the effectiveness of the product is measured by log reduction (often called log kill). Log reduction is based on the logarithmic scale, which tells us how much bacteria is reduced. Each log represents a 10-fold (90%) reduction in bacteria. For example: So while the difference between 99.9% ands 99.99% may seem small on the label, in reality, it means 10 x fewer bacteria left behind ! Why does Log Kill matter? Not every environment requires the same level of disinfection. Choosing the right product depends on where and what you are cleaning: Household cleaning - most retail sanitisers provide a 3 Log Kill (99.9%) which is usually sufficient for general household use where the risk of illness is relatively low. High-risk areas (hospitals, food prep areas etc) - these environments require higher log kill disinfectants, often 4 Log (99.99%) or above to ensure harmful bacteria are effectively eliminated and hygiene standards are maintained. Choosing the right cleaning product Understanding log kill helps you choose the right disinfectant for the job. If a product with a much lower log kill is used in an environment that requires stronger protection, it may not eliminate enough bacteria. Instead of reducing risk, this can allow harmful bacteria to survive, spread, and potentially cause greater problems. By selecting a disinfectant with the correct log kill level for the environment, you ensure effective protection, maintain compliance, and most importantly, keep people safe. A difference of just 0.09% on the label can mean a tenfold difference in protection. Always check the log kill claims when choosing your cleaning and disinfecting products. • The best way to increase repeat business at your pub.

Tips on how to get your pub ready for the festive rush The festive season and New Year are some of the busiest times for pubs and bars. With customers flocking in to celebrate, the last thing you want is poor beer quality dampening their experience. Cleanliness and maintenance are key to ensuring your establishment leaves a lasting, positive impression. Why Beer Line Cleaning Matters Did you know that beer lines should be cleaned every seven days? Neglecting this vital task can lead to a build up of bacteria and contaminants that negatively impact the taste and quality of your beer. In a competitive market, where customers have countless options, a single bad experience like a pint tasting off can cost you repeat business. In fact, according to the CGA RSM Hospitality Business Tracker, Britain’s top hospitality groups generated an 8.8% year-on-year sales growth in December . This highlights the importance of optimal hygiene all year round and especially during peak periods which is why you should be using products you can trust. Signs of Poor Beer Line Hygiene If you’ve ever had a pint that tasted strange or flat, it’s often due to unclean beer lines. This not only discourages customers from returning but can also harm your pub’s reputation. On the flip side, properly maintained beer lines ensure every pint is crisp, fresh, and enjoyable, giving people a reason to come back again and again. How to Maintain Spotless Beer Lines Here’s a step-by-step guide to cleaning your beer lines effectively: Prepare the Cleaning Solution Add the recommended dose of beer line cleaner to 5 litres of cold water in a brewery-approved cleaning container. Mix thoroughly. Drain the System Empty any remaining beer from the lines and fill them with the cleaning solution. Soak and Inspect Let the solution sit for at least 30 minutes. During this time, it will absorb dirt and contaminants from the pipes. The liquid should turn green. Repeat as Needed Flush out the green solution and refill with fresh cleaner. Allow it to sit for a few minutes. If the solution remains purple, the lines are clean. If it turns green, repeat the process up to five times until the liquid stays purple. Rinse Thoroughly Once the lines are clean, flush them with plenty of cold water to remove any remaining traces of the cleaner. This step is crucial to ensure your beer retains its natural flavour. How will this increase repeat business? Taking the time to clean your beer lines regularly ensures that every pint you serve meets the high standards your customers expect. With a reputation for excellent quality, your pub will become the go-to spot for festive celebrations and beyond.

  • Celebrating a Remarkable Milestone: Cleenol Raises £75,000 for Local Charities Through Project 75

At Cleenol, community has always been at the heart of what we do. As we marked our 75th anniversary, we wanted to celebrate in a way that reflected the values we hold dear. That’s how Project 75 was born, an ambitious initiative to raise £75,000 for three local charities that make a real difference in people’s lives. We’re incredibly proud to announce that we’ve hit that target, thanks to the generosity and dedication of our employees, customers, and suppliers. On March 5th, we celebrated this fantastic achievement with a special cheque presentation ceremony at our Banbury headquarters, creating a moment to remember for everyone involved. A Community Effort From Start to Finish Project 75 was the vision of our Managing Director, Sam Greaves, and was embraced with enthusiasm by the whole Cleenol team. Over the course of the year, our employees threw themselves into a wide range of fundraising activities, from skydives and endurance challenges to outdoor cinema nights and community events. Each event, no matter how big or small, contributed to the impressive fundraising total and brought people together for a shared cause. Supporting Three Incredible Charities Our team carefully selected three local charities that reflect values close to our hearts: Katharine House Hospice  – A long-standing partner of Cleenol, providing compassionate end-of-life care and support to patients and their families. Oxfordshire Mind  – A vital mental health charity offering support and resources to those facing mental health challenges across the region. Thames Valley Air Ambulance  – A critical emergency service that relies entirely on charitable donations to deliver life-saving care when it’s needed most. Each of these charities does exceptional work, and we’re honoured to support their missions through Project 75. A Visit From Dame Prue Leith To mark the occasion, we were thrilled to welcome Dame Prue Leith to our headquarters. Best known for her role on The Great British Bake Off , Dame Prue toured our facilities, met the team behind the project, and took part in the official cheque handover. Her presence added an extra sparkle to an already special day, highlighting the impact that businesses can have when they come together to support their communities. Looking Ahead The cheque presentation marked more than just the end of Project 75, it was a celebration of what can be achieved when people work together toward a shared goal. At Cleenol, we believe strongly in the importance of corporate social responsibility, and we look forward to continuing to support our community in the years to come. To everyone who took part, donated, supported, or cheered us on - thank you. Together, we’ve proven that with collaboration and compassion, we can make a meaningful difference.

  • The Race for the Perfect Laundry Results

Employee Spotlight: Ken Moss, Technical Business Development Manager     Cleenol’s laundry expert Ken Moss has dedicated his career in helping businesses perfect their laundry results. From optimising chemical dosing and analysing wash results, to training and programming custom wash cycles for levels of soiling and water hardness, Ken’s engineering experience spans across five decades. Willing and Able Equipped with an insatiable hunger to establish himself Ken started working at the tender age of 13. “I spent Saturdays learning about engineering and machine repairs. On weekdays I would rush to work at a local butchers’”, he reminiscences, “Those days a degree was not an imperative, I was willing to learn and work so they took me on.” A few years later Ken moved on to work with a company that manufactured dishwashers and glasswashers. “The work was fast paced but rewarding”, he recalls. “We would build the machines in the morning, sell them at night and fit them to the client’s premises by the next morning – we could not shift the stock fast enough!” The Virtues of a Family Business Ken joined the Banbury-based family business Cleenol as a resident laundry expert in 2013. “My first impression was that the company felt family-centric – you are classified as an individual, rather than just a number”, he reflects. “I felt there was a real opportunity to move the laundry offering forwards and get my ideas across to the rest of the company.” Over the years he has been trading in laundry chemicals across the UK as well as traveling the world to visit customers in destinations such as Dubai and Abu Dhabi. “It always surprises me how culture affects the purchasing behaviours of laundry chemicals – religion and culture can affect how cleanliness and fragrances are perceived. For example, fragrances that are from or imitate foods – such as fruit scents – are not popular in the Middle East!” The Need for Speed In his spare time Ken Moss is a motor racing fanatic, with Formula 1 holding a special place in his heart. “Recently I even built a VR racing car simulator in our house!”, he rejoices. “I just love the adrenaline and thrill I get from racing, whether it’s on the track or in a virtual environment.”

  • Cleenol products that meet BS EN 1276 certification

Why do we need broad spectrum disinfection? Is your product appropriate for the task at hand? Choosing the right product includes considerations for the task involved but also for the level of disinfection required for your environment. A good disinfectant needs to kill a wide range, or 'broad spectrum', of bacteria on the surface, including those responsible for food poisoning.   What is 'BS EN'? To keep your customers safe, disinfectants should be tested using European Standard Test Methods and meet the BS EN standards. A common test method for food areas is BS EN 1276 – that is ‘ Chemical disinfectants and antiseptics - Quantitative suspension test for the evaluation of bactericidal activity of chemical disinfectants and antiseptics used in food, industrial, domestic and institutional areas ’. EN 1276 certified product must be effective against the test bacteria, i.e. E. coli, Enterococcus hirae, Pseudomonas aeruginosa and Staphylococcus aureus, at its specified dilution and contact time.  Always check labels for either  BS EN 1276 or BS EN 13697  when shopping for products that prevent harmful bacteria from spreading onto food or contact surfaces.    Which CLEENOL products are BS EN 1276 certified? Cleenol products offer a range of disinfectants to choose from, so you're sure to find one that's right for your situation. Why We Became a B Corp We pursued B Corp Certification because its mission aligned perfectly with ours. We’ve always believed that business should be a force for good by positively impacting the economy, environment, and people. B Corp gave us a framework to formalise and measure our impact while holding ourselves accountable to the highest standards of social and environmental performance. What’s Changed Since Becoming a B Corp? Joining the global B Corp community has inspired and empowered us to make meaningful changes. It’s not just a certification, it’s a commitment to continuous improvement. Since becoming certified, we’ve taken major steps forward, and we’re proud to share just a few of the highlights from our first year: Volunteering and Giving Back While community support has always been part of our culture, B Corp status has strengthened our commitment. We’ve donated over 200 staff volunteer hours  to local causes - supporting those in need, building relationships, and increasing staff engagement through meaningful contribution. It's been incredibly rewarding to see the real difference we’re making. EU Ecolabel-Certified Products In May 2024, we proudly launched our first EU Ecolabel-certified products , a trusted mark of environmental excellence and product quality. Products carrying the “EU flower” symbol meet strict criteria for sustainability and performance, helping our customers make greener choices with confidence. Greener Operational Practices We’ve made a conscious effort to reduce our environmental footprint, including: Replacing halogen bulbs with energy-efficient LED lighting Introducing a compactor  to minimise waste and reduce carbon emissions Implementing a food waste bin  to improve recycling and reduce landfill waste These are just the first steps in our broader sustainability journey. Supporting Future Generations We’ve opened our doors to multiple work experience students , helping them explore career paths and gain valuable insight into the working world. It’s part of our ongoing commitment to supporting young people and building skills for the future. Looking Ahead Becoming a B Corp wasn’t the finish line, it was the start of something even bigger. The certification has sparked a new way of thinking and working across every area of our business. We are more accountable, more mindful, and more motivated to lead with purpose. We’re proud of what we’ve achieved so far but we know there’s still more to do. Thank you to our team, customers, and community for supporting us on this journey. Here’s to year two and beyond.
